Ommegang Rare Vos Amber Ale

I haven’t had many beers from Ommegang, but what I’ve had from them has been solid. I love the simple, consistent, premium looking packaging and branding of all their offerings. I usually at least try any variety of Ommegang brew that is available at the store (it seems to be really hit or miss around here).
Scent
After popping the cork out of this one, I was immediately hit with a yeasty, bready aroma. Maybe a touch of a coriander/grains of paradise type citrus to it, but not all that much. After pouring into a glass, I do get a slight metallic scent (always a turn off for me, but I seem to be hyper sensitive to it).
Taste
Wow is a word that pretty much sums this beer up. For a Belgian, this is a fantastically smooth and easy drinking beer. It tastes more citrusy then it smells, but overall, it is a really clean, somewhat tart and sweet beer, with a hint of zest and spice. I get absolutely zero alcohol taste or burn from this one.
Overall
What a great beer. It is probably the best Belgian Pale Ale I’ve ever had. Best of all, it’s super easy drinking (6.5% ABV), and I can see it pairing well with anything from burgers on the grill in the summer to a hearty plate of fried fish on a brisk winter night.
