Ommegang Abbey Ale

Scent
This is one extremely sweet smelling beer. The label describes it as rich fruity and aromatic, which I agree with to an extent. However I also want to say it smells a little bit like caramel or toffee. Either way, I can tell this is going to be a rich, sweet one.
Taste
Wow, what a rich, smooth, and hearty brew. The flavor of this beer is pretty much on par with its scent, but also with a bit of graininess. I actually don’t taste a lot of the ingredients that this beer is brewed with (licorice root, anise, sweet orange peel, coriander, and cumin). That being said, what I do taste is excellence in brewing — this is really a fantastic beer. Ommegang has nailed this one.
Overall
This beer as instantly made its way into one of my all-time favorites. It is very hardy and extremely smooth and balanced, while still packing an 8.2% ABV with little to no alcohol burn. I have a feeling that this could really be a dangerous one on a good night when things are flowing well.
