Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

This was the very first Ballast Point beer I ever tried, and what an introduction to the Ballast Point Brewing Company it was.
Scent
Right after cracking this one open, a strong hoppy aroma coupled with a sweet citrusy grapefruit scent fills the air. It is very representative of what you would expect from an IPA, with a tilt toward the citrus side.
Taste
This is a very bold but also very well-balanced IPA. The flavor is quite hoppy like you would expect from a West Coast style IPA, but is also balanced by a nice light citrus flavor that finishes with a slight bitterness. It’s not overly sweet at any point, either.
Overall
What an exceptionally well-brewed beer we have here. It’s really well-balanced, very smooth, and the flavors are just where you would want them to be. It may not be the absolute best IPA I have ever had, but it ranks right up there with the finest.
