Ale Smith Double Red India Pale Ale

Though it’s a winter seasonal, I was lucky enough to snag this one off the shelf in early summer.
Scent
This one is a really sweet, caramelly, smooth scented beer. I can get a hint of the typical IPA hoppiness, but it is overwhelmed by the buttery caramel sweet smoothness.
Taste
The taste is very caramelly and sweet, with a definite backdrop of citrus hop flavor. I want to say there is almost a butterscotch flavor in there somewhere. There is a fairly strong alcohol burn to it, but not alcohol flavor, which is really quite nice.
Overall
I really, really like this beer. It is very hearty, warm, and sweet, which is just perfect for a winter seasonal. Being a double red IPA, it’s a nice change-up from the typical spiced winter warmer types.
